Some tips on how to create a Funeral Order of Service (updated)
Funeral Order of Service
With new numbers and restrictions due to Covid. we are currently printing in very small numbers, so please feel free to still get in touch with any of your needs.
Organising a loved ones funeral can be a very difficult time, you may wish to have an order of service, we are happy to print your own design or if you would prefer you can talk with our graphic designer who can design the order of service for you with your input and any specific requirements or ideas you or your family may have.
The front page of the Order of Service booklet
The first page is the cover of the Order of Service, and it is best to keep it simple. You can include some or all of the following details:
- The full name of your loved one.
- A photograph.
- The date they were born and the date they passed away.
- The date, time and location of the service.
- A short message or epitaph
- The name of the officiant
Selecting a photograph for the front cover can be an opportunity for family and friends to get together and go through some old photographs. It is best to try and pick a photo where your loved one is the main subject, but don’t worry if there are others in the photo as we can focus on your loved one. There really is no right or wrong as to what can be included, it is an ideal time to remember the personality and character of your loved one. We are happy to help scan any photographs that might be needed.
Inner pages of the booklet
The inner pages can include the ceremony information and can be two pages or more. Additional photographs can be included but may need more pages added. Your officiant can help you with the running order of the service. Any readings, poems may be included, or Hymns if you have chosen them.
An example of a Funeral Order of Service:
- Music for entrance.
- Verse, Prayer or Hymn
- Music for time or committal.
- Committal or time of reflection
- Words of thanks and farewell
- Blessing or Benediction
- Music for exit
The back page of the Order of Service booklet
If there is a more recent photograph of your loved one on the front of the service sheet you may wish to consider an older photograph to be added to the back page. Alongside this we can add any words of thanks from family/friends. Any collection which may be donated in memory or your loved one with an invitation back to a gathering and refreshments after the service.
Organising the printing
If you are local to York Print Company, feel free to pop in and check our samples and paper stocks. We generally print onto a quality white 100gsm paper stock for inner pages and a slightly heavier 160gsm stock for the outer pages. We also carry an Ivory/off white paper stock, which is very popular.
How long does it take to print
We have a same-day print service for urgent jobs. Normal orders may take two or three days to design and print.
Free next working day UK delivery ensures you receive your order promptly or you are welcome to collect from the York print shop.
